And I run the streets all night and day.

I decided that I needed a break. I had heard from some other girls that going to Dallas was lucrative. Extremely lucrative. Q and I had been fighting more than normal recently and I didn’t want to give him an excuse to come visit me this Christmas. I wanted to be on my own. At least as much as I could. So, the day after Xmas I left my parent’s house and dropped Sweetie off at Connor’s. Made a reservation at the Extended Stay off Lombardy and 35 which was right next to Northwest Highway where all the good clubs were located. The drive up to Dallas was cold and long. I had turned off my phone and told my mom I was staying with Lauren for awhile, that I needed to take a break from Austin and get my head right.

I was on the phone with Jim practically the entire time. He kept me sane but didn’t encourage me to go. He said we could spend NYE together and I wouldn’t be alone. I knew I had to do this for myself. At least just see if I would get hired.

I checked into the hotel. And decided the first night I would just try to get in the door. I got all dressed up and went to the CHALET. The only place that I really wanted to work. I heard from so many girls that it was the best club in Dallas.

I drove down the back street to get there passing The Clubhouse – where Q’s ex used to work. He said she made great money there so at least it was a back-up.  I parked in the lot and took a moment. It was cold and I could see my breath in the car that hadn’t warmed up in the short ride over. I second guessed what I was doing in the parking lot of a new club but got out of the car anyway. I walked right up to the giant wooden front doors and into the foyer. It was already more glamorous than any club I had been in before. I walked up to the hostess who was absolutely gorgeous. Oh great, if all the girls look like this I’m totally screwed.

She gave me a warm smile and said “Auditions around to the back entrance” – I must have looked out of place. I quickly learned that girls don’t go in the front entrance in Dallas like they did in Austin. Only around the side entrances – I felt like my previous years of experience didn't make any difference here.

I trekked back outside into to the cold and walked halfway down the side of the building and found a small white door. Inside it looked more like a normal club. There was a house mom behind glass to the left checking girls in behind a window.

I gave her a smile and said, “I’m here to audition.”

She glanced me up and down and came around the counter to get a better look over.

            “Any tattoo’s?”

“Just a small one on my foot but I use Derma-blend to cover it.”

            “Have you danced before?”

            “Only in Austin.”

            “Ok come with me.”
